i got an ipod
i recently bought an ipod, while yes this seems rediculous in our modern era of having youtube and spotify and other shit at our fingertips i've found that i really prefer this over the main options in our current era of music consumption
honestly i have a list of issues with the modern way of consuming in general. how we've been locked into a system with algorithms that removes choice, a focus on single songs over complete albums, randomly stumbling upon songs instead of going out and finding something
idk, its just something distracting and gets in the way of not only just like listening to music but in general my life? let me break it down
Spotify
my issue with spotify is, well for one they pay their artists scrap... but it also vastly changed our relationship with music. Notice how most the time we use spotify we listen to just a bunch of singles or song
that was maybe found on the artists/bands front page? Or how we skip songs al the time in spotify? I mean for me personally I had this experience. It was so distracting I opened my phone all the time just to change the songs.
bouncing from artist to artist, album to album. Playlists didn't even help honestly. another problem with spotify is the algorithms that have been implimented to recommend you shit. Like I get its nice for discovery but man, I just wanna listen to the music I want to listen too! I don't want to have to connect to the internet for everything.
even for the albums I download spotify wants me to be online, is it so hard to just play an album and thats it? why are we adding videos to album covers??
look I understand spotify does have a place in ease of accsess and discovery in our modern world. So many doors have been opened for people who
probably didn't have that with how the music industry used to work. But in turn I think it stripped our actual sense of choice. I want to be able to just play a song and maybe read a book not be scrolling forever
in crappy ui to get somewhere then by that point I'm just in a tunnel of looking at songs.
also small side tangent, has anyone noticed how ass spotify's ui is nowadays? like it sucks right?
did you know spotify had audiobooks? that you can listen too right now? no? well thats because there is absolutely nothing that indicates that in their program. Like audiobooks don't look like a book or something, same thing with podcasts,
albums, singles, EP's, VIDEOS? why are there videos on spotify. Point is, this is just too much for something I just want to play music, its almost overwhelming.
tldr: spotify is too distracting and unreliable for me to be satisfied when using it.
